Can dogs eat cucumbers?

Yes, in small amounts.

Cucumbers are a safe, crunchy treat for most dogs. They're about 96 percent water and very low in calories, which makes them ideal for dogs that need to lose weight. Slice them, and skip pickles.

Are cucumbers good for dogs?

Half a cup of cucumber slices has only about 8 calories, compared with roughly 40 in a medium dog biscuit. That makes cucumber one of the best treats for dogs on a diet, and it's refreshing on a hot day.

How much cucumber can a dog have?

A few slices is plenty. Even low-calorie treats should stay under about 10 percent of daily calories, and too much at once can cause an upset stomach in dogs that aren't used to it.

How to serve cucumbers

  • Wash well and cut into slices or small chunks (never a whole cucumber)
  • The skin and seeds are fine
  • Serve plain, or chilled on a hot day

Skip pickles: they're cucumbers soaked in salty brine, often with garlic, onion, and spices.
